Spišská Kapitula, often referred to as the “Slovak Vatican”, is the historic seat of the Diocese of Spiš and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its dominant landmark is the Cathedral of St. Martin, whose grounds bring together centuries of living faith and rich history. It is here, in this sacred place personally visited by Saint John Paul II in 1995, that a new statue of the Pope, carved from Carrara marble, now stands to mark the 250th anniversary of the diocese – a symbol of reverence and a spiritual legacy for future generations.
The statue of Saint John Paul II is carved from white Carrara marble and depicts the Pope kneeling in humble prayer before a cross that divides the four parts of the Gospel.
