On Sunday 18th June, 2023, Dr Jan Telensky hosted a Waterloo Dinner at the Shay Stadium, Halifax, to celebrate the 208th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo on the same day in 1815
The guest list consisted of 26 veterans from the Duke of Wellingtons Regiment with their wives and partners, where applicable, a total number of 48 guests.
The Shay proved to be the perfect venue for such an event. The function room and the supporting facilities were ideal. The four course meal was beautifully presented and, with the main course being a very appropriate Beef Wellington, was enjoyed by all.
Jan ensured that there was an abundance of beverages, including gold coloured jeroboams of Champagne with bespoke labels, with enough alcohol to satisfy the thirst of a group of former Infantry soldiers.
Compliments are due to the catering staff at the Shay; the function room was very well laid out and the service, by the well trained, courteous and efficient staff, added to the ambience throughout the event, nothing was too much trouble for them.
The Regimental March and other Regimental music was played including ‘Dukes’ Rugby Song with loud cheering and choral backing from all guests.
However, the loudest cheer followed Jan’s announcement to enter the 18th into the diaries that he provides every year for members of the Regiment, for a repeat performance in 2024.
